Wacom Intuos Bluetooth Writing Tablet
Price: $150-$200

This is by far my most important teaching tool. Functionally, this device takes the role of a computer mouse while in use, allowing on-screen handwriting on any bluetooth-enabled device.
Even in our current digital age, handwriting by far the most efficient means of notetaking and communication within the world of mathematics. A simple keyboard and mouse simply do not suffice. A digital handwritten notetaking system is a must-have for any student looking to go completely digital with their mathematics work. This device works seamlessly with PDF Markup Software and Zoom's Annotation/Whiteboard features. I'm personally very impressed with Wacom's device quality and you can expect their products to work for many years (since 2010 I've only owned two Wacom products, and the only reason I got a second product is because I wanted a larger writing space!). |
Maono USB Microphone
Clear audio is an important professional finishing touch for modern-day video communication. The microphone that I use provides extremely impressive clarity for video calls and all other uses where audio recording may be necessary. The device connects via USB-C and does not have a battery that needs to be charged (if it's plugged in, it works!). It also has a directional sound filter (cardioid condenser) toggle that helps to reduce background noise coming from directions other than the speaker.
It also has a microphone jack for plugging in headphones directly for direct speech feedback, if desired. (This helps to reduce the tendency to speak too loudly when both ears have headphones in.) |
Large USB Ring Light
This ring light is the one that I use under most circumstances for video calling, which I use directly on my desk at home. It can also be tipped downwards when not on a video call to double as a desk light.
As someone who is sensitive to blue light (it's a quick headache trigger for me), having the ability to adjust the color temperature on my desk lights is a must. Both color temperature and brightness can be adjusted with this light. This light plugs in conveniently into any USB-A port and does not have a battery that needs to be charged. |
NexiGo Small USB Laptop Light
This is a smaller more portable light that I use when working during travel. It has its own battery that charges via USB-C and can run on maximum for about three hours at a time (keep it plugged in if using for longer stretches).
As someone who is sensitive to blue light (it's a quick headache trigger for me), having the ability to adjust the color temperature on my desk lights is a must. Both color temperature and brightness can be adjusted with this light. The light comes with both a laptop attachment as well as a phone attachment, so it's easy to guarantee good lighting for any device you're recording from. Despite the device's small size, it still provides sufficiently diffuse light to help reduce shadows to avoid visual distraction. |
